Are You “Size Happy?”
The first thing I usually hear from clients (especially new clients) is that they want to “lose weight.” They want me to get them down to a certain weight on the scale. I usually ask them how they chose that number they want to weigh. They usually will say because what they weigh “sounds” like so much. So, they end up just choosing a number that they think women should weigh.
I try to stress to my clients that their weight on the scale only tells them how much they weigh, but it doesn’t tell them the quality of that weight.
In other words, what percent of that weight is fat? Or muscle? Or water? Or bone? More importantly, the scale doesn’t tell you how fit you are. Again, it simply tells you how much you weigh right then, which many of you know changes frequently depending on the time of day or the time of month!
However, I recently had a client tell me that she wants to be “size happy.” I was extremely pleased by this. She doesn’t care about her weight on the scale. Her goal is to shoot for a reasonable clothing size to get into as well as feel good in.
Remember, there is no perfect weight or perfect size. I coach ladies of all shapes and sizes. Some are not quite 5 feet tall and others are almost 6 feet tall. Some wear a size 6 shoe, while others wear an 11. Not all women should want to be a size zero or 125 lbs. The goal should be to get as fit as your body can get. Every day, strive to reach your potential by exercising, eating healthy, and getting plenty of water, sleep, and rest.
Don’t be swayed by advertisements that a lower number on the scale is better and that a size 4 is better than a size 10. Aim to be “size happy,” and feel the burden of being a certain weight or getting into the smallest size possible being lifted. Feel lighter already?
