The Only Real Way to Combat Aging

/
Remember when you could eat crappy food, pull all-nighters, and still have the energy to power through your day? Oh, and you looked good doing it. But that was 30 years ago, and perhaps you’ve recognized in your midlife years that your body isn’t as resilient as it used to be.

5 Reasons Why You Might Be Procrastinating When It Comes to Exercise [Part II]

/
Last week I shared Part I of the 5 Reasons Why You Might Be Procrastinating When It Comes to Exercise. If you missed Part I, be sure to check it out. I truly hope that you gain some insight and understanding into why you might be procrastinating when it comes to exercise, because frankly, it’s just too important to continue putting off.

5 Reasons Why You Might Be Procrastinating When It Comes to Exercise [Part I]

We don’t mean to procrastinate on things we know are good for us, like exercise, yet we do it anyway. But why? There are several reasons I’ve come across (and honestly, some I’ve used myself at times), but there are 5 that appear the most often in my work coaching women in midlife.

Midlifers, Stop Baby’ing Your Parents… AND Yourself!

My family gathered at my grandma’s house recently, the same day her downstairs toilet broke. It was a holiday, so plumbers were scarce. This wouldn’t be a problem (to wait until Monday to get it fixed), except that it’s the only bathroom she has downstairs. While there are two bathrooms on the second floor, she doesn’t climb the stairs anymore.

If You Live to Be 100…

If you live to be 100, what kind of 100-year old will you be? Are you going to be bedridden and disabled? Or will you be active and healthy? In my Flourishing 50s community, I recently shared some wisdom from Marge Jetton, one of the centenarians (100+ year-olds) highlighted in the book we’re exploring “The Blue Zones: 9 Lessons For Living Longer From the People Who’ve Lived the Longest”.

Regular Checkups

Even though I try to stay as healthy as I can, I still don’t like going to the doctor. Nevertheless, I go every summer anyway for my routine check-ups. Not to mention, Type II diabetes runs in my family, so it’s something I have to constantly be mindful of.

5 (Unintimidating) Mid-year Reflection Questions

In my “Look, Feel, and Perform at Your Best in Midlife” workshop, I share that us women are busy creatures. We often have our heads “down,” plowing through our day as we think about what we need to do this hour, this minute, even this second sometimes. If our heads aren’t down, they’re “forward,” looking to what needs to be done next, tomorrow, or this week.

Cancer: What Midlife Women Can & Can’t Control

Cancer hit two of my family members in the past 6 months. It’s not surprising, as statistics tell us that for us, 1 in 3 women will develop cancer in their lifetime. Knowing this, it’s understandable to think that it’s inevitable for you too, if not sooner, probably later; however, my hope is that you’re also aware that there are things you can do to decrease your risk.
