Big Tip #2: 5 Big Exercise Tips That Will Keep You Fit For Life

Last week I shared Big Tip #1 with you.

If you missed it, you can check it out HERE.

Let’s get into Big Tip #2 today.

Big Tip #2: Keep Exercise Challenging

If you’re going to make the effort to workout, you might as well try to challenge yourself.

There are many ways to do that.

One way is to try different types of physical activity – maybe things you’ve always wanted to try or that look fun, but you haven’t mustered up the courage to try yet.

Doing the same movements all the time in the same way is not only boring, but we actually become more prone to injury that way.

Yes, that’s right.

Not challenging your body through different types of movements and speeds at which you do them is actually a recipe for injury.

Our body needs to move in various ways – not just moving forward all the time, but side to side, stopping, going, reacting – it’s ALL good for us.

What’s more, trying different activities keeps our mind sharp, improves our hand-eye coordination, and our reaction time.

These are all things we need to continue to work on as we get older.

So this week, what can you do to challenge your body?

This might look like pushing yourself a little harder during your workouts, increasing the intensity or duration of what you’re currently doing (more on this coming up).

It could also look like trying something that requires movements you’re not accustomed to.

Grabbing a friend, grandkid, or partner to throw a Frisbee around is a personal favorite, not just because it’s fun, but also because it requires you to react, change direction, and use hand-eye coordination to catch it.

Throwing a Frisbee around seems like a simple thing, but it’s actually quite complex and challenging.

It also requires you to bend over and pick it up when you miss it (which you will and I often do too).

And there are always ways to make it even more challenging like standing farther apart from your partner or jogging (instead of walking) to the Frisbee to retrieve it if you missed it and it landed a ways away.

Again, this week, think about how you can add more challenge and complexity to your workouts.

Be creative – there are countless ways to do it!

Stay tuned… I’ll be back next week for Big Tip #3!
