How to Have Your Cake and Eat It Too
There’s no doubt that as we age, the body declines. Whether it be loss of hearing, poor eye sight, memory loss, weight gain, wrinkles, or gray hair, these are merely some of the ways our body naturally ages with time.
Nevertheless, due to advances in medicine, technology, and health education, recent studies are showing that it won’t be uncommon for us to live to 100 years of age.
Imagine you have only lived half of your life in years so far? What if you had another fifty years of life? How does that make you feel?
I don’t know about you, but for most things that I can think of, I’m much more of a person who prefers quality over quantity every time. In this case, I want to live both a long life, as well as a healthy and happy life, and most of the clients I work with want the same.
I came across this article recently about the five oldest women in the world. These five women are all 115 years old and were born in the 1800’s. Amazing! To think of all they’ve seen and experienced in their lifetime is unfathomable to me. The article mentions them living through “two World Wars, the Cold War, the development of the airplane, the invention of the television, and eventually, the age of the Internet,” and of course, everything in between. Wow!
These five ladies were interviewed about the secret to a long life. They said, “the secret to a long life is getting enough sleep, exercising everyday, and eating things you like regularly,” No surprises here!
But again, aging is something we all must not only deal with on a daily basis, but we must also learn to accept as it occurs. So, whether you’re more interested in adding more years to your life or more life to your years, there’s one thing that will help get you there and that’s taking care of your health.
Something we can learn from these ladies who are still going strong is that daily health habits are important, but so is enjoying foods you love on occasion. When you think of longevity and quality of life like this, it’s another way of saying you can have your cake and eat it too.
