If Not Now, When?
“You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure, the process is its own reward.” –Amelia Earhart
Remember that 1988 movie Big? Tom Hanks stars as a 12-year-old boy who desires to be big and makes a wish at a magic wish machine. He wakes up the next morning to find himself in an adult body as a 30-year-old man. His wish was granted.
Have you ever wished that you could just wake up tomorrow and have the body and life you desire just like he did?
In the movie, it was all fun and games in the beginning, but he soon finds himself feeling overly pressured by his new life. He wasn’t ready. He hadn’t gone through the process that we all must go through as we grow up. His greatest chance for success and happiness would only come if he became an adult the hard way, one day at a time, one week at a time, one month at a time, and one year at a time. He would learn from his mistakes, grow as a boy into a teenager and eventually into an adult not just physically, but emotionally and mentally as well.
You probably know by now that I’m not one who jumps to see what the latest exercise fad is or what the newest diet craze is. One of the biggest reasons for this is because I truly believe in not just working on the outside of our bodies, but transforming our lives from the inside out. In other words, I believe that we grow the most when we go through the process.
It’s easy to lose a hundred pounds by having weight loss surgery, but you don’t learn anything from it. It’s simply a quick fix. You don’t learn how to make life-long changes because you haven’t gone through the process. It is only when we go through the process where we learn who we are, why we make the choices we make, where we’re weak, where we’re strong, how to handle temptation, how to control your portions, how to choose the right foods, and so on.
I challenge you to commit to the process the hard way, the path that requires effort, the road that promises twists and turns and peaks and valleys. Trust that achieving the body, health, and life that you desire is about more than just what you accomplish. It’s about who you become in the process.
Where are you in the process of becoming the person that you desire? Are you ready to take the next step? I’d love to chat with you about it over on my Facebook page.
