If You Were Given JUST One…
I bought my dream car when I was 21 and I still have it, a Jeep Wrangler.
We’ve been through some wild stuff together, traversing multiple terrains. She’s been up and down the coast of California numerous times, from the desert to the ocean to the mountains, and of course, several weekend trips to Vegas.
She also has her share of bumps, bruises, and scars she’s accumulated over the years, whether it be through normal wear and tear or the few times she’s been bumped from behind at a red light. She’s even been violated several times from strangers breaking in and stealing anything from her stereo, to cash, to my bike!
When I started working from home a few years ago, in the beginning, she sat in a parking space, rarely being used. I remember driving her from time to time, but her function just wasn’t the same. In fact, she began to break down more frequently. One time I especially wasn’t happy about when it was in the middle of an intersection during the lunchtime rush hour!
But, it wasn’t her fault. I wasn’t using her much. Her fluids weren’t being utilized. I recognized that if I wanted to her to be able to keep working for me, I’d have to get her out on the highway more often and get her wheels turning!
Think about this for a minute: If you were given just one car that you would have for the rest of your life, how would you take care of it?
You’re smart, so I know you see where I’m going here – you did just get one – one body!
One of my favorites: “Your body is your vehicle for life. Love, honor, respect, and cherish it. Treat it well and it will serve you in kind.” –Suzy Prudden
You could say the same for your car – Love, honor, respect, and cherish it. Treat it well and it won’t break down!
The reality is that cars do break down from time to time, even those that are serviced regularly.
The same is true for our body. It will break down. Like cars, our bodies age the longer we have them and the more miles we put on them.
Our aging body is a natural part of life, but unlike a car, we can’t just go out and get a new one. Instead, we have to love, honor, respect, and cherish the only one we have.
For my Jeep, this means I take her out regularly for a spin. Not just once a week at her age, but several times a week, even just for a short trip to the grocery store.
Keeping her healthy, fit, and at peak performance now and for the years to come also means investing in her “today” and her future. This means taking her in for regular service.
Just the other day, I took her in for an oil change, tire rotation, and replaced her transmission fluid. It came out to $199. I happily paid my bill because I love my Jeep and I want to take care of her, as if she’s the only car I’ll ever own.
Now, of course there will be a day that my Jeep can no longer perform and I’ll have to get a new car. But, that’s not the case with our body.
This is the only one we have and there’s no place we can go and trade her in for a better one.
Maybe your one and only body isn’t looking, feeling, or moving the way it once did, but she is YOURS and like me and my Jeep, you’ve probably been through a lot together. She’s probably broken down several times throughout the years, but hopefully you keep her maintained and take her out for a spin on a regular basis.
Now that my Jeep is 14 years old, I pay a little extra to get the premium oil for her during her regular oil changes. At this point, she needs a little extra tender, loving care, and I’m willing to be generous because I still want her performing well for me. I get a lot of enjoyment when I take her out on the road.
I wonder if your one and only body could use a little “premium oil” right now as well. Maybe it would help her look, feel, and perform better.
When it’s your only one, you see maintenance and upgrades more as an investment, rather than an expense, at least I hope you do.
If like my Jeep, your body has been in “park” for too long and you need to get her going again so that she keeps working optimally for you, I invite you to my next ReINVENT Your Health 6-week online course. It’s a self-paced program, so it’s designed for busy women who don’t have a whole lot of time, but want to improve their health habits.
This program will help you identify your Top 10 Strengths so that you can use what you’re already good at to help you reach your health goals. Then, each week we go over a different topic – Sleep, Food, Mood, and Exercise. You’ll learn how to improve one, so that improving the others becomes much easier.
This program builds on what you’re already doing right, instead of focusing on what you need to fix. This approach is not only more positive and optimistic, but participants obtain quicker results this way as well.
But I’m not just into quick results that come and go. In fact, I’m against that. I’m into creating healthy habits that stick for the rest of your life. You’ve probably tried the quick fixes anyway. They’re exciting at first, but unsustainable in the long run.
If your body could use a major tune-up right now, this is your chance to get back on the road and see what it really feels like to look, feel, and perform at your best with the one and only “vehicle” you have in your life.
You’re worth the investment. Let’s get started. Learn more and register today here*.
