Reignite Your Zest for Life in Midlife
When I count my blessings, one of them is always the fact that I know such amazing women who also share my mission of empowering women in midlife, but serve them in various ways.
One woman in particular I wanted to highlight today, because our messages are so aligned, is Midlife Fulfillment Coach Maria Allyn.
Maria and I were chatting on the phone the other day and I thought that she could bring a lot of value to my community.
Well, she felt the same way about me and we decided to interview one another and share that with you!
I think you’ll resonate not only with Maria’s story, but what she believes about the amazing possibilities midlife women have at this time of their lives and how they can uncover more fulfillment in their lives:
“I truly believe that this second chapter of our lives is meant for our own fulfillment. We’ve been serving others for decades and now the time has come to make ourselves a priority. This includes giving ourselves permission to pursue our passions and purpose.”

Maria, you’re a “Midlife Fulfillment Coach”. What do you mean by that?
I truly believe that this second chapter of our lives is meant for our own fulfillment. We’ve been serving others for decades and now the time has come to make ourselves a priority. This includes giving ourselves permission to pursue our passions and purpose.
That’s where I come in. I partner with you along that journey. We explore what limiting beliefs, labels and stereotypes are standing in your way and zero in on your biggest desires. Then baby steps are taken to reach those goals.
It’s all about being consistent with that movement, being held accountable and reigniting your zest for life.
What compelled you to work with midlife women in this way?
When I hit midlife, I was overwhelmed with the feeling of disconnect and desperation that I felt. I had been living by default for so long that I had no clue about my own desires, even the simple ones.
I remember going to get ice cream for the family and quickly placing orders for my husband and kids. When it came to order my flavor, I had no clue what I liked. Talk about being disconnected from life’s simple pleasures!
That was the beginning of many realizations that I had become lost and that I needed to make myself a priority. I began to give myself permission to explore what lit me up.
In time I obtained a Master’s Degree and the burning desire to be a Life Coach for midlife women who were feeling that same numbing desperation. It’s been an incredible, fulfilling journey.
What does a typical client of yours come to you struggling with?
They feel as though time is running out on their dreams. They want their lives to have meant something and the idea of “legacy” is important.
They know that life can be filled with passion and adventure, but can’t seem to find that spark.
They think that a lot of these are symptoms of aging, but in fact, they are a symptom of living the wrong life.
What do you find to be a common lie, myth, or misconception about women in midlife?
Society equates happiness with being young.
The fact is that midlife brings wisdom, finances, clarity, free time and a healthy ability to the table. That equates to greater happiness.
You talk about “moxie” a lot. What is it?
Moxie is the courage to go for it even when you don’t have all the answers. I think it’s a huge factor in mastering midlife!
What are 1 or 2 pieces of wisdom you’d be willing to share with my community of women in their 50s?
First of all, take some time on a regular basis to disconnect from social media and TV. Whether it’s a day a week or an hour a day, it’s all beneficial.
We are constantly bombarded with “stuff” on a regular basis. It makes it very hard to tune into what you truly desire. It clutters and confuses our ability for intuition guide us.
Secondly, realize that as you begin your exciting journey towards your possibility, not everyone may cheer you on. When you change your actions, it requires those closest to you to do the same. It takes a lot of moxie to live a passionate, purpose driven life.
