Audio Blog: Find Your Better
There’s a coffee shop I like to go to write sometimes and there’s a gym that I pass on the way. I love to look in and see people working out and the other day I caught a glimpse of a big illuminated sign they have on their wall that says: “Find your better.”
Thinking About Exercise in a Different Way
You may have heard me say before that while our body is our vehicle for life, it’s far different from the vehicles we drive every day.
Sure, you could say that, like a car, we can “purchase” replacement parts, but rather than a new engine, transmission, or tires, for example, we can get new hips, knees, and even a new heart.
5 Questions to Prepare For the Second Quarter of the Year
As we’ve come to the end of the first quarter of the year, this is a great time to reflect, learn, and plan.
Of course, I hope you’ve made health and self-care an area of priority this year, but beyond health goals, if you’re anything like my clients, maybe you wanted to get back into playing the guitar or learning Italian, for example.
Results Too Slow? 3 Things to Remind Yourself When You’re Discouraged

I remember an exercise science class I took in grad school.
We were discussing physical performance development in athletes in order to help them gain strength, power, agility, and speed through training out on the field, court, or weight room.
The Most Important Question to Ask Yourself in 2019
Whether you want better health habits, deeper relationships, an organized home (that stays organized), all of the above, or something completely different, it’s going to require asking yourself one very important question.
When it comes to this, actress Susan Sarandon hits the nail on the head when she said this.
How to Have a Healthy & Happy 2019
I was thrilled to be asked back on the Fun, Feisty, Fabulous Podcast with co-hosts Karyn & Jean.
As always, they asked personal and vulnerable questions when it comes to their own health journey – more specifically this time on how to approach their health in the new year.
Here’s a preview of what we covered:
• How to think about what's going to work for you this year
• How to get past the discouragement of when things are moving slowly and you're not seeing the progress you hoped for
• Should you use a scale to weigh yourself this year?
• What we humans have a hard time with that we must understand about ourselves if we want to make healthy changes that last
• Who to share your successes with, who not to, and why
I hope you find this episode helpful as you navigate your own healthy journey in 2019.
4 Questions to Reflect on 2018
Around this time each year, I’m reminded that there are generally two camps of thought on New Year’s Resolutions – those who are into it and those who aren’t.
Well, I’m in the “into it” camp.
And it’s not because all the New Year’s Resolutions I’ve made in the past I’ve stuck to or came to fruition; rather, it’s because I believe a New Year’s Resolution is nothing more than a promise you make to yourself to improve in some desired way this coming year.
How Washing the Dishes Can Bring Out the Best in You
I’ve never used a dishwasher.
At first, not by choice – we didn’t have one in the house I grew up in.
But everywhere I’ve lived since has had a dishwasher, and I’ve used it, but not in the conventional way; rather, I’ve found it to be a handy extra space to store my larger pots, pans, and muffin tins.
5 (Unintimidating) Mid-year Reflection Questions
In my “Look, Feel, and Perform at Your Best in Midlife” workshop, I share that us women are busy creatures.
We often have our heads “down,” plowing through our day as we think about what we need to do this hour, this minute, even this second sometimes.
If our heads aren’t down, they’re “forward,” looking to what needs to be done next, tomorrow, or this week.
How to End Your Day “on a Make”
Whether it’s playing, watching, or just holding a ball in my hands, I love basketball and have since I can remember.
And right now I’m in heaven because the sweet spot of the NBA Playoffs are happening at the same time as the WNBA season kicking off.
Because it’s my favorite sport and the one I’ve played most, I’ve been able to take away a lot of principles in basketball that are also applicable to this game we call life, so even if you’re not a fan of basketball (or even sports), I hope you can find value in these lessons too.
