As we begin a coaching call, I like to ask my clients a different question to get us started.
There are questions I ask that take them a minute to think about and answer, like:
"What's something you've learned about yourself recently?"
"What's something you're proud of yourself for since the last time we talked?"
"Who has supported you lately?"
Don’t Judge a Body By Its “Fit”ness
You know the saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”?
We know it metaphorically means that we shouldn’t make assumptions about who someone is on the inside based on how they look on the outside.
Similarly, when it comes to health and fitness, I’m saying: Don’t judge a body by its (perceived) fitness.
A Powerful Birthday (or any day) Statement
I don’t care what anyone says, I like to take certain times of the year and give meaning to them – New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, the beginning and end of a season, and yes, my birthday.
Balance vs. Harmony
Coming up this week is Women’s International Day on March 8th. The theme this year is “Balance For Better.”
While the focus of the theme has to do with gender equality, I thought it’s also a great time for us women to also consider what the word “balance” might mean in other areas of our lives as well.

Is Self-Care Selfish?
There’s a word that comes up quite often when I talk with women in midlife:
“I need to be more selfish with my time.”
“But, I don’t want to seem selfish.”
“Geez, I’m using the word ‘Me’ and ‘I’ a lot and it sounds selfish.”
That word “selfish” comes up a lot because I talk to ladies every day who have put themselves last on their list for too long.
They have been so “self-LESS” throughout their lives that their health has suffered a little or a lot as a result and hence, they reach out to me because now in their midlife years, they are ready to refocus on taking care of themselves physically, mentally, and emotionally.
The Best Diet For YOU This Year
US News & World Report recently came out with their Best Diets for 2018.
Tied for first were the DASH diet and the Mediterranean diet.
The DASH diet is rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy foods; includes meat, fish, poultry, nuts, and beans; and is limited in sugar-sweetened foods and beverages, red meat, and added fats.
