Will you show up for YOU this year?
I attended the Women’s March last Saturday and it was phenomenal. I didn’t actually “march”, but I was on the sidelines above the crowd taking it all in.
There were women (and men) of all shapes, sizes, and ages. There were even women who showed up in wheelchairs or walkers. Again, it was sight to see – so many women gathering to come together to stand up for each other. My favorite sign was “I’m with her” with arrows pointing in different directions.
I had an interesting conversation with a colleague the other day about the March. We were talking about the millions of women showed up to march, yet she has a hard time getting her clients motivated to exercise, even for 10 minutes.
She then said, “We women are great at showing up for others, but when it comes to showing up for ourselves, we often don’t.”
This was great insight and based on my experience working with my clients (and heck, myself too at times!), we women do a much better job at helping others than helping ourselves.
If you find yourself in this boat, I encourage you to consider what it would take to get you motivated enough to show up for yourself everyday when it comes to your health and well-being.
Getting to the Women’s March in LA was quite a journey as we chose to take public transportation. There was even a minute that I considered turning back and going home because getting there seemed impossible. Nevertheless, I reminded myself of the commitment I made to go and I forged ahead, finally making it there.
When the going gets tough, remind yourself of why you’re doing what you’re doing. Then, continue forging ahead!
